Root canal treatment is recommended when an infection of the tooth pulp occurs, caused by the development of carious lesions. The progressing disease will be accompanied by severe, annoying pain.

Additionally, root canal treatment is recommended for those patients who have suffered pulp violations as a result of:

- performing conservative treatment that included a large carious lesion,
- mechanical damage to the tooth - fracture of a part of the tooth together with the pulp.

Failure to carry out root canal treatment in the above cases may result in necrosis or even gangrene of the tooth. As a result, a submucosal abscess may develop in the patient’s oral cavity.

In case of tool breakage in the root canal, it is also necessary to perform root canal treatment, the so-called re-endo. Re-treatment of the root canal is also carried out when the previously performed treatment proved to be ineffective.

The alternative of extracting a tooth seems unattractive - in this way you will lose a tooth, which will have to be replaced with an implant. Considering this circumstance - root canal treatment under the microscope is much better! Find out, how does root canal treatment under the microscope look like and, does it hurt?

Root canal treatment under the microscope requires opening the chamber of the tooth and then removing all of the pulp that is inside. This includes both contaminated and healthy, living pulp. Microscopic root canal treatment is performed under anesthesia - usually local anesthesia; such anesthesia ensures that the patient is very comfortable. This means that the answer to the question – “does root canal treatment hurt?” - is the word “no”.

It is related to some discomfort during the procedure, but in terms of whether root canal treatment hurts, we are confident that pain will not occur. Before the procedure, a cofferdam (a thin sheet of flexible rubber) is placed around the treated tooth to isolate the treatment area from the rest of the oral cavity. The canals of the tooth must be thoroughly cleaned, rinsed and disinfected to be able to proceed to the next part of the treatment.

During root canal treatment we use an endometer, one of the most precise devices used in endodontics. It is used to determine the length of root canals. Thanks to it, we are able to accurately develop the root canals.

Then, after complete cleaning of the canals, the root canals are dried. Thus prepared canals are protected with the use of so-called gutta-percha. To secure the canals we use the method of “Continuous Wave of Condensation” (CWC). Thanks to this method it is possible to seal the area around the apex of the root canal. Properly cleaned and secured root canals are a guarantee that there will be no recurrence of the disease, which could result in the need for so-called re-endo, i.e., repeated root canal treatment.

After undergoing a procedure such as root canal treatment under the microscope, it is necessary to restore the tooth using prosthetic solutions. For this purpose, for example, prosthetic crowns are used. They are able to guarantee the natural appearance of the tooth, while effectively restoring its functionality. In this way, it is possible to complete root canal treatment under the microscope and enjoy a functional and good-looking tooth again. If you already know what root canal treatment looks like, you should also find out how long root canal treatment takes.

The question “how long does root canal treatment under the microscope take?” can be interpreted in two ways. When it comes to the number of visits, if one tooth is completely treated, in many cases one visit to the endodontist will be sufficient. Unfortunately, when there is bone damage near the root apex, more appointments will need to be made for the procedure, which is root canal treatment under the microscope.

As for the duration of one visit - it all depends on how complicated the case is. Duration of treatment, as well as its price, depends on the number of canals in a given tooth. It is difficult to determine unequivocally how long root canal treatment lasts. One visit may last even up to three hours - this applies, among others, to root canal treatment of molars. It is recommended to set aside at least 1 hour for root canal treatment under a microscope.

The price of root canal treatment varies, depending on the number of canals in the tooth. This is due to the fact that a larger number of canals requires more time, for example - for a two- or three-canal tooth we spend about two hours, and a one-canal tooth requires an hour of work.
